1. Special Lecture
"New trends in materials research and nondestructive evaluation" (tentative)
2. Keynote Presentation
"Monitoring the Civil Infrastructure with Acoustic Emission: A
Bridge Case Study"
- By Dr. D. Robert Hay (President, Tisec Inc., Canada)
- CV of Dr. Hay:
Dr. Hay has held both academic and industrial positions. He has been
involved in structural integrity assessment for over 40 years beginning
with work on bridge structures for public transportation. In
Philadelphia, he created Materials Evaluation and Consulting Services
where he provided inspection services and consulting on problem
assessment and repair actions for the Southeastern Pennsylvania
Transportation Authority and the City Philadelphia.
He also applied
this expertise to problem areas on rolling stock and on the quality of
the ride on rail and road surfaces and their impact on rolling stock
wheel assemblies and structures. On the commercial side, he formed
Tektrend International Inc. in 1972 and built it into a leading supplier
of advanced nondestructive testing systems. He divested himself of
interests in Tektrend in 1999 and formed TISEC Inc. in Montreal that
provides nondestructive testing services.
In 2003 he formed
WavesInSolids LLC in State College, PA, to develop inspection
technologies for the transportation industry. His broad experience and
technical background ranges from materials and reliability engineering
to computer science including artificial intelligence, imaging and
multimedia productions for training materials in this field. These have
been applied to fundamental research, equipment design and fabrication,
inspection, and to management and transfer of technology.
He has
extensive hands-on experience in field inspection and in failure
analysis of large engineering structures. Building on its experience of
having performed over 300 AE bridge inspections, TISEC now provides
acoustic emission bridge inspection services for railway and high
bridges throughout North America and numerous other locations throughout
the world.
